Virtually hidden from the world for hundreds of years in the Italian Campagna, this ancient breed, the Neapolitan Mastiff that is gifted with extraordinary intelligence and tuition, is now being sought after by modern man. The Mastiff looks and acts like no other breed of dog. He has not been exploited as of yet, and therefore retains the original cunning, self confidence, and attitudes he needed in ancient times when he was used as a defender of his master’s family. The Neapolitan Mastiff is a Guard dog and defense dog par excellence. He is massive, powerfully built, strong of course and at the same time majestic in appearance. He is robust, courageous, and of a docile nature, yet unsurpassed defender of persons and property. The Mastino of today is what it was in the past, a superb and unequaled, almost permanent, barrier between anyone in the outside world and his master’s property. Ownership of a Neapolitan Mastiff is a privilege, not many can boast of having such a magnificent companion and total protector

Stonehenge Kennel
In 1980, I took an avid interest in the Neapolitan Mastiff, and after extensive research I purchased two pairs from
well-known and reputable Italian kennels.
The objective and goal was to create a program that would produce the prototype Mastino that mirrored its Italian type. I quickly learned that aside from a very typey dog,which we endeavor to breed; that a sound specimen was to be as much a part of its blueprint.

As an artist, with an illustration background in anatomy and structure, countless hours were spent studying and drawing the Italian Mastino, until I had a sense of what I should be breeding.
Years of breeding and exhibiting Neos, have proven successful, and the fruit of this effort producing show-ring champions, proven stud dogs and productive bitches have resulted in a by-product of Stonehenge Neapolitan Mastiffs.
Stonehenge is the home of imported champion Marchesina and champion Atilla, they produced many outstanding litters including champion Marlena. We strive for both soundness and typeyness; plus bone substance and wrinkles in our Neos.
